From the beginning

When I first started out as a fresh new business owner in Seattle, I used my photography skills to share the beauty of nature with prints, calendars, magnets and postcards to sell at art fairs. I also photographed weddings, families, and headshot portraits. Back when I started, it was not enough to make any real financial contribution to my family. All those printing costs, vendor fees, paper ads, and more led me to lean in and learn more about how to make a living as a photographer.

The leading experts of the time focused on picking a niche you could specialize in and offer only that specific type of photography. Back in 2014, that made sense, so I let my creativity focus on branding and headshot photography with Native Light Photography launching in January of 2015. It was a solid choice and led me to where I am today. The roller coaster was real - from my first studio opening, and closing, and new studio opening!

With the ups and downs that 2020 and the Pandemic brought, I realized what I missed in my photography business: nature, kids, families, teens, more creative ideas! That inspired me to invest in 2023 to revisit my business and vision. With the help of a business coach, and trusted relatives and friends, I was empowered to bring it all together under Holli with an i Photography!

Like an Umbrella - this is opening up my photography to include all that I do and love. From branding, headshot portraits to families, couples and meaningful art portraits. Here are some examples below:

I started at South Seattle College

I'm forever grateful to have taught through the Continuing Education Program at South Seattle College. Now, I offer some small group and individual classes! It's such an honor to unlock someone's potential to they can enjoy the magic of photography too.

What's Next?

As the rebrand is moving along here in 2024, I am also revisiting my Stock Shop I started during the Pandemic. Now, I have less time to add to the shop, but I still want to share all of the beautiful things in nature that I so enjoy. My current question is whether or not to reopen that part of my business. I'm not in a rush to decide...perhaps it will become something new and different.

With the rise in AI taking over some Commercial and Headshot Photography, I am leaning into offering more creative portrait options. For example, the ALL YOU sessions provide the full portrait experience with wonderful lighting, direction and fun without any retouching at all. A throwback to the old film photo studio days!

All to share, I'm excited to merge all of my photography passions under one brand. And, I look forward to having space to create without concern that I'm not doing it "right" according to some books and expert models that no longer fit my style of work. I am fully leaning into my heart-led photography here!
