Rwanda is a country most known for it’s civil conflict in the 1960’s that left countless lives brutally lost. We have movies and books to read about it. What most do not know is that it is a rich country. One full of love, community and the drive to grow through educating the youth.
In August 2016, I joined Benjamin Edwards and a small team of photographers to support a local woman’s efforts to build the community through the classrooms. I was among a passionate group of photographers working to learn more about humanitarian and non-profit work. We came from all levels of experience and learned in an immersion style that built life-long friendships.
My eyes and my heart were opened to the beauty of Africa, the heart of community working without the basic necessities we take for granted in America, but full of infectious smiles and encouragement.
