Even though this sight is irritating, it’s also beautiful.

Ever since I picked photography back up after having a baby, I have given back to my community through photography. From an Ice Cream social in the park to community festivals, I have happily donated my photography to the North Delridge Neighborhood Council as a service, a way to celebrate and record the ways our neighbors work and play together.

This came after many frustrating days complaining to my husband about all the litter.

And then, I got involved. I really got to know my neighbors. We built a playground. Then, we worked together and organized a neighborhood festival. And now, I have a project to nurture: Seattle Shines. The goal is to show folks the beauty in their neglected Seattle neighborhood. And the people who are making a difference. My dream is to get everyone to see the beautiful details in life. No matter what your zip code is.

It started in Delridge.

It started in Delridge.

I look forward to spreading the message through Seattle Shines throughout Seattle. And, I would love to see folks who use Instagram start using #SeattleShines to share their images of beauty too! If you’re on Facebook, I’ve started a page for folks to follow the project that way too: Seattle Shines!
